User-Directed Cycle Count
Operators choose which locations to count—ideal for spot checks, ad-hoc verification, or areas needing immediate attention. Full support for LPN, lot, and serial tracking.
What is User-Directed Cycle Count?
User-Directed Cycle Count is an inventory counting process where operators choose which locations to count rather than following system assignments. This provides flexibility for spot checks, responding to suspected discrepancies, or counting specific areas that need immediate attention.
Unlike Directed Cycle Count where JASCI assigns locations, User-Directed counting puts the operator in control. This is ideal for experienced staff who notice potential issues, supervisors verifying problem areas, or situations where systematic counting isn't practical.
Full Inventory Control Support
User-Directed counting fully supports LPN-controlled locations, lot-tracked products, and serial-controlled inventory. The workflow adapts based on how the location and products are configured—prompting for LPN scans, lot numbers, serial numbers, and expiration dates as required.
The counting process follows a logical flow: scan location, scan product, capture any required tracking information (LPN/lot/serial), enter quantity, and repeat for additional products. When complete, variance handling follows the same rules as Directed counting—based on operator authority and Cycle Count Controls settings.
Counting by Inventory Control Type
The workflow adapts based on how inventory is tracked at each location
Standard Count
Location not LPN-controlled, product not lot/serial controlled. Simple scan location → scan product → enter quantity.
LPN-Controlled
Location tracks inventory by License Plate Number. Operator must scan the LPN to validate.
Lot-Controlled
Product requires lot tracking. Operator scans/enters lot number and expiration date.
Serial-Controlled
Product tracks individual serial numbers. Each unit must be scanned during count.
Key Capabilities
Flexible counting with comprehensive tracking support
Operator Location Selection
Operators scan any location to initiate a count. Perfect for spot checks, problem areas, or responding to discrepancy alerts.
LPN-Controlled Locations
For LPN-tracked locations, operators scan the LPN to validate inventory at the license plate level.
Lot Tracking Support
Lot-controlled products require lot number validation. JASCI can create new lot numbers if needed.
Serial Number Capture
Serial-controlled inventory requires serial number scanning during count for complete traceability.
Expiration Date Validation
For date-sensitive inventory, operators enter or verify expiration dates during the counting process.
Multi-Product Locations
Count all products in a location sequentially. System prompts for each item until "Count Done" is selected.
User-Directed Count Workflow
Flexible process that adapts to inventory control requirements
Select Cycle Count Location
Navigate to the User-Directed Cycle Count function. Scan the location you want to count.
Scan Product
Scan the product barcode at the location. JASCI validates the product exists in the system.
Validate Controls (If Applicable)
For LPN/lot/serial controlled inventory, scan or enter the required tracking information.
Enter Quantity
Count the physical stock and enter the quantity. Repeat for additional products in the location.
Complete Count
Select "Count Done" when all products are counted. JASCI checks for variances.
Handle Variance
Based on authority, either create a Location Check for review or update inventory directly.
Choose the Right Counting Mode
JASCI supports both approaches—use them based on your operational needs
