System-Directed Putaway
Let JASCI determine the optimal storage location for every LPN. Operators simply scan and follow system instructions for fast, accurate, and optimized putaway.
What is System-Directed Putaway?
System-Directed Putaway is a WMS workflow where the system determines the optimal storage location for received inventory. Instead of operators choosing where to put items, they simply scan the LPN and follow the system's instructions—ensuring consistent, optimized placement every time.
This approach is the opposite of "User-Directed Putaway" (also called "Select Location"), where operators choose their own destination. System-directed putaway is ideal for warehouses that want to enforce slotting strategies, optimize space utilization, and minimize decision-making at the floor level.
Why System-Directed?
When the WMS controls location assignment, you ensure that high-velocity items stay in prime pick locations, hazmat products go to compliant zones, and warehouse space is used efficiently. Operators don't need to know your slotting strategy—they just follow the screen.
In JASCI, System-Directed Putaway is accessed from the mobile RF device via Inbound → Mobile Putaway → Putaway - Directed. The workflow is simple: scan LPN, see location, travel to location, scan location to confirm. Putaway complete.
System-Directed vs. User-Directed Putaway
JASCI supports both workflows. Choose based on your operational needs.
System-Directed
Recommended- WMS determines optimal location
- Enforces slotting rules automatically
- Consistent, optimized placement
- Minimal operator training
- Better space utilization
- Supports velocity-based slotting
User-Directed
Alternative- Operator chooses location
- More flexibility for experienced staff
- Good for overflow situations
- Requires location knowledge
- May lead to inconsistent slotting
- Better for small warehouses
How JASCI Delivers System-Directed Putaway
Intelligent location assignment with simple operator workflow
Intelligent Location Assignment
JASCI analyzes velocity, product dimensions, storage constraints, and slotting rules to recommend the optimal putaway location.
Simple Scan Workflow
Operators scan the LPN, receive the location assignment, scan the location to confirm, and move on. Minimal training required.
Real-Time Validation
Invalid LPN scans are rejected immediately with clear error messages. Only valid, receivable LPNs proceed to putaway.
Product Information Display
The mobile screen shows product details alongside the assigned location so operators can verify they have the right item.
Slotting Rule Integration
System-directed putaway respects your configured slotting rules: hazmat zones, temperature requirements, velocity-based placement, and more.
Instant Confirmation
Once the operator scans the destination location, putaway is complete and inventory is immediately available for allocation.
System-Directed Putaway Workflow
Simple, scan-based workflow that anyone can learn in minutes
Navigate to Putaway
Access System-Directed Putaway from Inbound → Mobile Putaway → Putaway - Directed.
Scan the LPN
Scan the putaway LPN on the received freight. The system validates the LPN against expected inventory.
Receive Location Assignment
JASCI displays the product information and the system-determined optimal putaway location.
Travel to Location
Operator moves to the assigned location with the freight.
Scan Location
Scan the location barcode to confirm placement. The system validates the correct location.
Putaway Complete
Inventory is now in its assigned location and available for picking and allocation.
