Cluster Pick
Pick multiple orders simultaneously on a single cart. Execute discrete orders, batch picks, and batch singles all in one trip through the warehouse - maximizing picker efficiency and reducing travel time.
What is Cluster Pick?
Cluster Pick is an advanced picking methodology that allows warehouse operators to fulfill multiple orders simultaneously using a single pick cart with multiple compartments or slots. Each slot is assigned to a different order (via LPN), enabling pickers to consolidate travel across multiple orders in a single trip through the warehouse.
Unlike traditional single-order picking where operators travel the warehouse for one order at a time, Cluster Pick dramatically reduces travel time by intelligently grouping picks. Whether you're handling discrete single-line orders, batch picking items shared across orders, or processing batch singles, JASCI's Cluster Pick optimizes every step.
Key Distinction
Cluster Pick combines the efficiency of batch picking with the accuracy of discrete order fulfillment. Each cart slot maintains order integrity while maximizing picks per trip - delivering 2-3x more productivity than single-order picking.
The Cluster Pick flow in JASCI is accessed through Outbound → Pick → Pick Cluster All. The system guides operators through zone selection, cart scanning, LPN assignment, and optimized pick paths - ensuring every step is efficient and error-free.
Why Cluster Pick Matters
Transform your picking operations with multi-order efficiency
Productivity
Pick 2-3x more orders per hour by consolidating travel. One trip through the warehouse fills multiple orders simultaneously.
Accuracy
System-directed slot assignments and scan verification ensure the right items go to the right order every time.
Flexibility
Handle discrete orders, batch picks, and batch singles on the same cart - adapting to any order profile.
How JASCI Does It
Intelligent cart-based picking with system-directed workflows
Zone-Based Picking
Pick by zone or group zones to minimize travel. System optimizes pick paths within assigned areas.
Multi-Slot Carts
Use carts with multiple slots, each assigned to a different order via unique LPN identifiers.
Scan Verification
Scan location, product, and slot LPN at each pick to ensure accuracy and maintain order integrity.
Batch Singles Support
Efficiently pick single-line orders in batches, consolidating many small orders in one trip.
Cut Functionality
Handle partial picks with the Cut button when full quantity isn't available. Auto-generates location checks.
Optimized Drop-Off
System directs cart to optimal drop-off location. Confirm all orders complete with one action.
Cluster Pick Workflow
System-guided picking from cart setup to drop-off
Select Work Zone
Navigate to Outbound → Pick → Pick Cluster All. Scan the work zone you want to pick in.
Scan Cart
Scan the cart barcode. Cart may have pre-assigned LPNs or you'll assign them to each slot.
Assign LPNs
Assign unique LPNs to each cart slot. Each LPN represents one customer order.
Follow Pick Path
System directs you to each pick location in optimized sequence. Scan location barcode to confirm.
Pick & Sort to Slot
Scan product, pick quantity, then scan the indicated slot LPN. Use Cut for partial picks.
Drop Off Cart
Once complete, system indicates drop-off location. Select 'Confirm Drop Off All' to finish.
Supported Pick Types
One cart, multiple picking strategies
Discrete Orders
Pick complete multi-line orders. Each cart slot contains all items for one customer order.
- Full order visibility
- Easy quality check
- Direct to pack
Batch Pick
Pick shared SKUs for multiple orders at once, then sort to individual order slots.
- Fewer location visits
- Optimal for common SKUs
- High throughput
Batch Singles
Efficiently pick many single-item orders. Each slot holds one single-line order.
- Perfect for e-commerce
- Maximum orders per trip

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Cluster Pick
QHow many orders can I pick on one cart?
The number of orders depends on your cart configuration. Most cluster pick carts have 4-12 slots, with each slot representing one order. JASCI supports any cart size and will optimize picks based on your cart capacity.
QWhat's the difference between cluster pick and batch pick?
Batch pick collects items for multiple orders together, then sorts them afterward. Cluster pick sorts items to order-specific slots during the pick process. JASCI's Cluster Pick can actually do both - you can batch pick shared SKUs and sort to slots, or pick discrete orders directly to slots.
QHow does the system handle partial picks?
Use the 'Cut' button when the full quantity isn't available. This allows you to pick what's available now and generates a Location Check for the cut location. The remaining quantity will be picked on a subsequent trip once inventory is replenished.
QCan I use cluster pick for zone picking?
Yes, Cluster Pick is zone-aware. You select your work zone when starting, and the system optimizes your pick path within that zone. You can also configure group zones to pick across multiple related areas.
QWhat happens if I scan the wrong slot?
JASCI validates every scan. If you scan the wrong slot LPN, the system will alert you and prompt you to scan the correct slot indicated on screen. This prevents mis-picks and maintains order accuracy.
QHow are LPNs assigned to cart slots?
LPNs can be pre-assigned to carts or assigned dynamically when you scan the cart. Each LPN represents one customer order. When you scan a slot during picking, the system tracks which items belong to which order.
QCan cluster pick work with wave planning?
Absolutely. Cluster picks are typically released through wave planning, which groups orders by zone, ship date, carrier, or other criteria. This ensures your cluster picks are logically grouped for maximum efficiency.
QWhat's the best order profile for cluster pick?
Cluster pick excels with small to medium-sized orders (1-10 lines) with overlapping SKUs. It's ideal for e-commerce, wholesale distribution, and any operation where multiple orders share common products. For very large orders, single-order picking may be more appropriate.
